All you need to know about your car cooling system
![]() |
HOW DOES YOUR CAR COOLING SYSTEM WORKS? The car cooling system is responsible for removing excess heat from the engine. It also provides heated air to the vehicle interior. Liquid coolant is continuously circulated between the radiator and engine. Air passing through the radiator or cooling fan maintains the coolant at the correct operating temperature. |
THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR CAR COOLING SYSTEM:
The radiator, cooling fan, thermostat, water pump, coolant and hoses all require regular maintenance at selected kilometre and/or monthly intervals, as specified by the manufacturer.
Items that may indicate a fault with the car cooling system are:
* Coolant leaking onto the ground directly under the engine bay.
* Steam rising from the front of the bonnet and engine bay.
* Engine temperature gauge reading higher than usual or temperature light coming on.
* Low coolant level in the radiator.
TYREHOUSE AND GOODYEAR AUTOCARE TOP TIPS FOR YOUR CAR COOLING SYSTEM:
Failing to follow regular car cooling system maintenance can result in serious and costly engine repairs.
Your Tyrehouse Manager will be happy to discuss or demonstrate the following Goodyear Autocare top tips:
• Never open the radiator or reservoir cap to inspect or fill coolant while the engine is hot. The sudden release of pressurised and heated coolant can cause serious injuries.
• Top up coolant to the correct level with demineralised water or premixed coolant only.
• Avoid driving vehicle whilst coolant is leaking and never drive whilst the engine temperature gauge is reading high or the temperature light is on.
